Raise your hand if you have more than 5 credit cards! Now, how many of you think that having more credit cards is bad?

Most people shy away from applying too many credit cards for fear that they will spend more with more cards on hand. This is made worse with websites like Investopedia writing articles such as 9 Reasons to Say No to Credit.

However, I think that if you know how to use credit cards to your advantage, you could actually gain more out of it.

Here’s how I signed up for a Citibank CashBack+ card, got a free Apple AirPods Pro through a promotion, and earned $308 by selling it. All in less than an hour’s of work. $308 could be one or even two day’s worth of salary!

Reason for choosing the Citibank CashBack+ card is because it has no minimum spending and first year waiver for the annual fee unlike some other cards which impose such conditions on you.

From time to time, SingSaver has good deals on credit card promotions and one of it was the free Apple Airpods Pro which caught my attention.

I figured that I do not have a Citibank CashBack+ card and it wouldn’t hurt to apply for one and get the free gift. Of course, I was sceptical at the start but I figured that there is no downside risk for me.

I applied via SingSaver through their promotion and got directed to the Citibank credit card application website. I applied via MyInfo since they have all your details of your monthly income and CPF contribution etc, so the process was extremely straightforward. You no longer need to submit the last 3 months of your income statement and most of the paperwork are now redundant.

Slightly less than 2 months later and after activating my Citibank CashBank+ card, I received an email from SingSaver notifying me that my Apple Airpods Pro is ready for collection.

I opted for delivery from one of their service provider, Short-Q, paying a nominal fee of $5 to have it delivered. Which is okay since time is money as well. Finally, I got hands on my Apple Airpods Pro.

As I have no need for an expensive pair of earphones, I’ve decided to sell it on Carousell at a discounted price to get the cash and invest instead. Within a few days, I managed to sell it to a happy buyer.

My point being there are a lot of creative ways to make money and taking advantage of credit card promotions / new sign ups is one of them. Do note that most credit card promotions are for new sign ups and you will not be eligible if you have terminated your card in less than one year. However, I’m sure promotions of such are ongoing and you can reapply again after you have cross the one-year mark.

I have seen cashbacks, Samsonite / American Tourister luggages, watches as free gifts and these are all good deals to take advantage of too. However, I find that the Apple Airpods Pro promotion to be the best so far.

What are some of the great deals have you scored from a credit card promotion? Share with us in the comments box below.
